What inspired you to be a lawyer and how has that impacted you?

My legal journey began 19 years ago after being called to the Bar. I started my practice at a law firm in Abuja before transitioning to the role of a legal officer at the University of Maiduguri. The desire to advocate for justice and make a positive impact in society inspired me to become a lawyer. A pivotal moment that fueled my passion for law was witnessing the power of legal representation in protecting rights and promoting justice. My advice to young women aspiring to pursue a similar path is to stay committed, resilient, and never shy away from challenges, as they are opportunities for growth.

How can legal organizations, professional associations, and government bodies collaborate to create a more inclusive environment for women in the legal profession, both in terms of representation and career advancement?

Legal organizations, professional associations, and government bodies can collaborate by implementing policies that promote gender diversity, providing mentorship programs for women in law, and ensuring equal opportunities for career advancement. By fostering a culture of inclusivity and representation, we can create a more supportive environment for women in the legal profession.

In your view, what are the most pressing gender disparities within the legal profession, and how have you personally navigated or addressed these challenges in your career?

As a woman in the legal profession, I have encountered gender-related obstacles. Overcoming these challenges has shaped my approach to inclusivity by reinforcing the importance of advocating for gender equality and diversity. By standing firm on principles of equality and fairness, I strive to create a supportive and inclusive environment for all professionals.
Reflecting on your career, what legacy do you hope to leave for future generations of women in the legal profession in Nigeria, and what aspirations do you have for the future of inclusivity in the legal system?
Reflecting on my career, I hope to leave a legacy that inspires future generations of women in the legal profession in Nigeria. I aspire to be remembered as a trailblazer who championed gender equality, diversity, and inclusivity in the legal system. My vision for the future of inclusivity in the legal system is one where all individuals, regardless of gender, have equal opportunities for growth and success.
How do we create more inclusion for women in law and society?
Balancing professional responsibilities with personal commitments has been a significant challenge. As a wife and a mother, I have learned to prioritize and delegate tasks effectively to manage this balance. Flexible work policies can indeed contribute to greater inclusivity for women in the legal profession by providing them with the support needed to excel in their careers while fulfilling personal responsibilities.
