How does your role as an in-house counsel allow you to contribute to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace for women in the corporate sector?

Prior to transitioning in-house, I have consistently collaborated with women and cultivated strong working relationships with them. Currently, I am part of a team of five individuals, among whom four are women. My experience working with women has challenged any preconceived notions I may have held about women's ability to effectively collaborate.

Because of how I was supported by women (and to be honest, regardless of it), I am committed to ensuring that the women I work with feel valued and supported. By championing their voices, acknowledging their contributions, and cheering them on, I actively contribute to fostering a workplace culture that celebrates women.

Can you share an example of a legal challenge you've faced in your in-house role that specifically related to women's issues, and how you addressed it?

Given that my COO and team lead are both women who actively champion women's rights, I'm blessed to be part of an incredibly supportive company that prioritizes gender equality. To date, I haven't encountered any such challenges, thanks to the inclusive and empowering environment fostered by my female colleagues.

Are there any women in the legal field, past or present, who inspire you? If so, how have they influenced your journey?

Absolutely! There have been numerous women in the legal profession who have profoundly influenced my journey. For instance, Mrs. Folashade Alli SAN, whom I had the privilege of working with at my first law firm, recently honored with the title of SAN, she embodies tenacity and determination. In the next law firm I worked at - TNP, Bukola Bankole, Genevive Henshaw, and Temitope Sowunmi, embodied the essence of excellence in lawyering, and they intentionally guided me towards becoming the best version of myself personally and professionally. The invaluable lessons I garnered from them continue to influence my lawyering to this day.

My team lead at Piggytech, Rachael Ehima, whose grace and brilliance as a lawyer and leadership qualities keeps leaving me awed. Within my circle of female colleagues, I find inspiration in the remarkable contributions of Feyisekemioluwa Akande and Naomi Ekop, both of whom have such passion and expertise in their work. Lastly, I am deeply impressed by Falila Hamu, whose management of a 21st-century law firm ‘Hamu Legal’ serves as a testament to her ingenuity and leadership in the legal landscape.

What work place policies do you believe will make a big difference in supporting women's professional growth and well-being in the workplace?
